We have been called out twice in the past few days by people whose keys were stuck in the lock. Both of the locks were mortice locks and both keys were very firmly stuck in place. After removing the first jammed key it was found to be the wrong key for the lock. It did look very similar to the correct key so if you have similar keys for different locks then it could be worth making them easy to distinguish from each other by some means. The other jammed key was the correct key for the lock but it was obvious after removing it from the lock that it had been damaged and was bent out of shape. This is what had caused it to become stuck - if your key feels more difficult than usual to turn don't force it, take it out and check to see if it is damaged. If it is then take to a key cutting specialist who can cut you a new key. For more information on what we do see our list of locksmith services.
